Advantages: great discussions on key issues
Disadvantages: loads of ad breaks
The Sunday Supplement is a sports show which is on Sky Sports and focuses mainly on the weekend's football scores and key issues which have cropped up and are deemed worth of discussion. It can be very interesting because sometimes the issues they are discussing are quite sensitive and the pundits have contrasting views and opinions which mean it can become quite heated. I particularly remember when Jimmy Hill was leading the show he used to get some stick for being a bit of an old 'fuddy duddy' from the others, it's not quite the same since he left.
Jimmy was axed in 2007 when Sky decided that it would be better to have four newspaper journalists sitting around the table, I disagree with them on this because the journalists write in the papers every week anyway and so you can already access their views on the issues discussed, Jimmy added more information and opinion in my view. Brian Woolnough is the new presenter / chairman of the show and he is great at what he doe and does have a fantastic knowledge of football and things which are happening. Every week he is joined by three other guests / journalists, these do vary but the main ones are Shaun Custis, Henry Winter, Patrick Barclay and Bill McGarry.
It's a great show and believe many people tune in to watch it every Sunday, certainly many of my friends do. There is one thing which really irritates me though, the television advertising breaks! It appears that Sky Sports love these because they can't have any of their shows without them, this show in particularly suffers from these because it loses a bit of potency as they leave what they are talking about for a couple of minutes before returning once the adverts have finished. Sometimes if it's not that interesting an episode I simply switch the channel when the adverts come on and don't bother to return because it is so annoying and can't be bothered to wait. I'm sure I'm not alone on this.
For sport lovers and especially football lovers because they tend to spend 99% of the time discussing football, it's a great show. It's interesting to see that people have different views on subjects which you'd believe there would be only one argument. I remember the Carlos Tevez saga when he was at West Ham United caused a lot of controversy and was a regular talking point on the show. Well worth watching, but be ready for the number of interruptions.
Thanks for reading.
Summary: a great football show, shame about the ad breaks. Worth watching.
