Kath & KimNewest Review: ... level. Kath and Kim are played by Jane Turner and Gina Riley, who also created, write and produce the show. They're both about the same age in real life so it adds to the comedy that Kath is supposed to be about 30 years older than Kim. In some ways it adds to the comedic effect of Kim always trying to dress too young for her age, and of Kath's success in her fight to maintain her ... more |

I've got one word to say to you Kim.... is just one of the many catchphrases that you will learn and love about Kath and Kim. This Australian show is set in the home of Kath, an exercise fanatic who's recently embarked on a relationship with local man Kel. Kim is Kath's daughter. She's overweight and whiney and has a love-hate relationship with her husband. Kath is the heroine of the piece and Kim is the bad guy, although only on a superficial level. Kath and Kim are played by Jane Turner and Gina Riley, who also created, write and produce the show. I lived in Australia for a year in the 1990s (I wasn't a student on a year out and I paid for it myself!) and my worst memory was the TV was bloody awful, Steve Vizard the only guy that made me chuckle, Blackadder re-runs the only thing that would keep you going through the woeful Brisbane winter. But today Aussie TV have finally something to chuckle at, Kath & Kim, a uniquely funny sitcom from Down Under. Just as Canadian sitcoms have their own appeal there's something cuddly and likable about this. Each episode starts with Gina Riley, who plays Kimberely, performing "The Joker" on the opening credits, and an incredible pair of lungs too as the ... Read the complete review

This is an Australian sitcom filmed in the style of a mock documentary. It focuses on Kath and Kim - mother and daughter. Kath is in her forties and is enjoying having the house to herself and series one starts with Kim, in her twenties, moving back home after splitting up with her husband Brett. There are also two other main characters - Kel, who Kath has starting dating and who proposes later in the series and their neighbour and friend Sharon who is constantly blighted with injuries and skin conditions. There have been 5 series of this in Australia but it takes a while for this to reach us in UK so currently you can buy series 1-3 here. I will focus on ... Read the complete review

'Kath and Kim' is the comedic fictional tale of an Australian mother and daughter living their suburban lives. Jane turner stars as Kath Day a 40-something divorcee and Gina Rile stars as Kim Craig, her 20-something daughter. Kath is a ditzy woman who likes to think of herself as the envy of others. She is a keep fit fanatic (she has some wonderful shell-suit tracksuits to prove it!) and is dating Kel Knight who is a purveyor of fine meats, not a butcher! Kim is a self-confessed 'hornbag' currently separated from her husband Brett, who hates her job, sponges of her Mum and eats 'dippity bix' all day! We also see her 'second best friend' Sharon Strzelecki, expertly ... Read the complete review
