Keeping up Appearances is a funny show in the sense that it is just terrible. The show focuses around the main character Hyacinth, and her husband, Richard. Hyacinth always tries to involve herself in anything that is going on in the particular episode, to keep up her snobby appearance in the community. She always finds a way to con Richard into the scheme as well, even though he never wants a part of it. Nobody in the show likes Hyacinth, and most of the lines in the episode are cracking jokes about her. Her two neighbors always make fun of her and talk behind her back. Keeping Up Appearances is low-budget British sitcom that was originally broadcast between 1990 and 1995, and as its title would suggest, it is based around snobbery, class-issues and the notion of 'Keeping up with the Joneses'. Its central protagonist, Hyacinth Bucket (Patricia Routledge) is originally of working class origins but now lives a middle-class lifestyle and is obsessed with appearing posh, talking down to everyone around her, insisting her surname is pronouced "bouquet" and generally conducting herself with a snobbish, regal air, much to everyone's constanc chagrin, especially her downtrodden and long-suffering husband Richard (Clive ...  Read the complete review

If you have never heard of Keeping up Appearances, it is a tv sitcom that came to our screens in 1990. It has a great cast including Patricia Routledge, Clive Swift and Josephine Tewson. There have been five series and over forty episodes of this show to date. The running time of each episode is 30 minutes and the show was created by Roy Clarke. I have to say that i completely love this show. Its brilliant and the humour is excellent, it never fails to make me laugh. Every episode i have ...  Read the complete review

WHAT IS IT ABOUT: This British sitcom from the 90s featured Patricia Routledge as Hyacinth Bucket, a larger than life snob who does everything she can to advance in society, whilst trying to hide her working class family. It ran five seasons between 1990 and 1995. IS IT ANY GOOD: I have to say that I love this show, even though I am quite clearly not its demographic. At its heart, this show is all about those people (we all know them) who want to make out they are middle or upper class, when really they are working class. The premise is as simple as that, yet it's perfectly executed through a few brilliantly written and acted ...  Read the complete review
