At first I was not keen on this programme but over ime it has rather grown on me as a gentle comedy that takes that very British concept of class and the desire of some people to re-invent themselves into something they are not.

Patricia Routledge plays Hyacinth Bucket although being a total snob even though she is from a very working class back ground whe insists that her married name is pronounced "Bouquet". Her husband is the long sufferring Richard who is nagged and forced to drive her around to visit various stately homes.

This can be a very funny comedy at times, especially when she encounters her sister who lives in an awful council house with a fat dirty looking husband who watches TV all day and her other sister who is a bit of a tramp.

Some of Hyacinth mannerisms are rather amusing especially the way that she answers the phone or referes to her "intimate candlelit dinners". This is a very British comedy in the way the humour is presented and it is well worth watching as it is on BBC1 with lots of repeats on different cable channels.

Summary: Amusing British comedy
