Kids In The Hall, The

Kids In The Hall is a short sketch comedy show starring four very funny Canadians. They do sketches with regular characters, many of them female, but mix in a good variety of one-offs. Very few of their sketches require the viewer to be familiar with Canada (although there are enough inside jokes to keep the natives watching), so anyone can certainly enjoy their slightly warped, very sharp sense of humour. This show sprang up during the years Saturday Night Live in the States really sucked, and they managed to capture a large following of Americans. Kids in the Hall was the sort of sketch show you'd never expect to come out of Belgium. Which is perfectly understandable, because it was written and perfomred by Canadians. The sketches feature the sort of absurdist humour that could get you locked up. One recurring character is a madman who spends his days by the roadside attempting to "squash" people's heads with his fingers. Then there's the kayaking Innuits who patrol corporate corridors catching executives for their "skins". Very close to being my favorite show of all time. I first saw the show years and years ago when the American cable channel HBO ( Home Box Office) started showing a few episodes. I was far too young to be watching this show ( I was about 12) but I was hooked straight away. The Kids In The Hall are a Canadian comedy group that specialises in doing sketch shows. They are obviously very strongly influnced by Monty Python. The sketches all have an off beat and quirky nature to them. In my experiance it is one of those shows that you either love or hate.
