Advantages: Well written and very funny

Disadvantages: None so far this series

This programme has recently returned for a new series on BBC1 and for anyone who watched the previous series and didn't enjoy it, I would urge you to give it another try.

When I had seen the show before I hadn't thought it particularly funny and cannot remember actually watching a full episode, so when they started advertising its return I wasn't looking forward to it. As it happened there was nothing else on when the programme went out on a Saturday evening and so decided to give it a go, what a surprise it turned out to be.

The cast is headed by Caroline Quentin as the Kate of the title. She works as a counsellor with Douglas (Chris Langham) and their receptionist Mel (Amanda Holden)and Mel is going out with Craig (Darren Boyd). The story revolves around these four and their lives at both work and home. Douglas is living at Kates flat and, unbeknown to her, would also like to go out with her but seems destined to remain as just good friends. Some of the funniest moment involve Mel and Craig, with Craig having an almost childlike naievity about everything which often leads to him having the best lines of the whole cast.

The show is also co-written by Langham with John Morton and they are to be congratulated for an extremely well written script which is entertaining from start to finish. The show doesn't rely on on location for all the action and the scenes where Kate is having a counselling session with one of her appointments are just as funny as the ones set in her flat. All the supporting cast who play the various people needing help have also been very good so far this series. It will be interesting to see how they develop the storyline about Douglas's unrequited love because usually this type of plot can only be kept going for so long without it becoming totally unbelievable.

Now that I have become such a fan of this show I am looking to watch the repeats on UK Gold to see if my initial impression
of this show was wrong or I was just unlucky to catch a poor episode before. I would apreciate any comments from people who have watched this show both before and now to let me know what they think.

Like yourself and leviathan, I really wasn't impressed by what little I saw of the first series, but I'm glad I gave it another chance!
