Knot's LandingNewest Review: ... the best ever programme was Knots Landing. Well it wasn't, no way, no. There are literally thousands of programmes which were better. I could complete my review by just listing them but no, this is a review about Knots Landing and it will focus on that programme. Why don't I like it. Well it started as a spin-off from Dallas, an infinitely superior programme which was, as soaps go, well acted, had a good script and a fine cast. Knots Landing took the dullest of the Ewings, Gary, and relocated him in California. I feel sure the motive for this was just to create another programme for the schedules and each to feed off each other. But Knots... more |

I have been reading through the TV section of a rival opinion survey and noticed that Knots Landing was always shown as the Top TV programme. Now this has bugged me for a long time. Apparently everyone who had reviewed it had given it 5 stars out of 5 and so on that basis it was the TOP programme. Now I am sorry but if John Logie Baird were alive today he would turn in his grave. The thought would be too much that all his beloved invention had to show was that the best ever programme was Knots Landing. Well it wasn't, no way, no. After the soap opera DALLAS became successful, the producers decided to create a spin-off series. They took the character of Gary Ewing, who was the 'white sheep' of the Ewing clan and relocated him from Texas to California. Gary was played by Ted Shackleford. Now this guy has never been the greatest of actors, but his woodenness as Gary just seems to add to the likability of the character! When Gary is drunk (which at various times in the show's history happens quite often) and he is given some more to work with, the acting qualities sometimes improve, but on the whole this guy is not great! Another one of the main characters is Mack ... Read the complete review

Knots Landing what can I say, it is absoultely brilliant. Ever since UK Gold has been added to my sky package, I have been watching this 5 times a week soap. The show was originally shown from 1979-1994 and though it was a spin-off of Dallas, it ran for longer and ended up with a huge fan base. The action centres around the inhabitants of Knots Landing, and in particular the Cul-de-sac. The main Characters are: Valene (Joan Van Ark)- dippy, mad and marrying a different bloke every 5 minutes, all with disatrous results (she has married Gary Ewing twice and is about to go for no 3). Gary (Ted Shackleford) - An ex-alcoholic who ... Read the complete review

I was never one to watch Dallas or Dynasty without fail but when Knots Landing came on to the TV I found it unmissable. There was something about the antics of Gary & Abby and Karen & Mack etc. that was hugely entertaining and each week the storylines just got better and better. Now that it has ended after being on Terrestrial TV I still miss it and although it is now on UK Gold I always seem to forget to tape it. I wish that somehow it could be brought back and the storylines continued, but I know it won't be. American soaps are normally quite trashy - although often sill watchable! - so what was the secret with Knots Landing? I don't know, but there will ... Read the complete review

I am catching up with Knot's Landing all over again on Sky's Movies Gold 2......every day at 6pm! I am as addicted to watching it this time round as I was the first time. It is a spin off soap from Dallas, and features Gary Ewing -the younger 'black sheep' brother of JR and Bobby, and his wife....or ex wife as she is at the moment, Valene. The soap isn't just about Gary and Valene, it's about all the residents of knots Landing and their trials and tribulations - of which there are many, a bit like a cross between Brookside and Dallas....although not quite as glitzy as Dallas. Karen and Mac....his daughter Page that he knew ... Read the complete review
