Later with Jools HollandNewest Review: ... lasting 45 minutes to a hour. I am a huge indie music fan and over the years Later with Jools Holland has introduced me to hundreds of bands i haven't heard of and has also wowed me with live performances from some of the bands i already loved or some of the all time legends that were before my time (i remember in particular seeing Jimmy Cliff singing Many River to Cross and all the hairs stood up on my neck and the next day i was straight down to HMV to buy a Jimmy Cliff album). There really isn't anyone that Jools hasn't had on the show during its 17 years on the TV and i hope this continues and Jools keeps striving to show the best b... more |

Later With Jools Holland first appeared on our screens in 1992 and quickly established itself as the premier music show on British TV. It is a eclectic mix of pop, rock, alternative and world music hand picked by host Jools Holland. Jools has a long history in the music industry and was a founding member of the brilliant 70's and 80's band Squeeze, his piano work has also allowed him to work with some of the greatest artists of our times, he now fronts him own Jazz ensemble The Rhythm and Blues Orchestra. He has long been involved in broadcasting and with his odd charm and love of music plus his contacts in the music business enables Later to get ... Read the complete review

WHAT IS IT ABOUT: Jools Holland hosts this eclectic music show that has been running since 1992. Showcasing musicians from all genres, Holland weaves performances together with his unique hosting abilities. IS IT ANY GOOD: The best thing about this show is the variety of music styles they promote. It's impossible to pigeonhole the type of performers they have, and that doesn't mean they all have to be non commercial - they've had their fair share of pop talent on too. You're just as likely to The Streets perform as a deep south USA blues singer who looks about 100. Each show features around five performances, tending to range between well ... "Later with Jools Holland" is, I think, the best music program ever to appear on TV, and it is a tragedy and a waste that this excellent program is only ever shown so late at night that many viewers can't access it. It should be prime time viewing rather than then mindless pap that is generally available for consumption. Back when I had regular access to a TV, this was one of the few programs I would make an effort to watch. There are two things that make this an outstanding thing to watch. Firstly, Jools Holland himself. Jools is a laid back presenter who, rather than trying to hog the limelight and show everone how 'clever' he is ... Read the complete review

Jools Holland. He's been around. Not in that sense (Not to MY knowledge). He is a king of jazz and bop - he knows all the cool people, he plays the cool music He has a cool show Later with Jools Holland was a hit from the beginning. The concept was sound, the ideas were sound. Everyone that came on had to have a cool sound. The thing that gets me about Later is the absolute diversity that the show encourages - putting pop acts on the same night as dance and goth and metal. Later with Jools Holland, as a showcase of new and old talent alike, is an amazing show. Not only do we get to see some of the most up-and-coming bands from ... Read the complete review

One hour, thirteen songs and one of the greatest bands of our times. Mix these three and you have one of the finest moments in television history (The moon landing? What the hell is that!!!). From the first initial riff and vocals on The National Anthem, it was obvious to everyone watching that Radiohead were in tremendous form. The National Anthem stirred up the crowd and the band, with Thom Yorke belting out the vocals and some excellent guitar was thrown in to boot. Then Thom Yorke advised us to sit back and relax, they would be here for the next "50 odd minutes". Oh how we wish it was more, but we may have died of excitement if it was ...
