It was very impressive however how Letterman handled this clearly intoxicated actor, and managed to get the interview out of him, in a way that still entertained the audience, despite the lack of input from Phoenix. At the end of the interview, Letterman said "I'm sorry you couldn't be with us tonight Joaquin" - much to the auidences amusement. I first saw Letterman when it was shown late night on Sky One several years ago and now that I am subscibing to Ondigital noticed it was back on our screens on ITV2. Watching it again I was surprised how little the format had changed in the years since I had last seen the show. David Letterman is undoubtedly a polished and accomplished host with a right up to date script with the obligatory jokes at anyone who is in the public eye such as political figures and celebrities.
