It was very impressive however how Letterman handled this clearly intoxicated actor, and managed to get the interview out of him, in a way that still entertained the audience, despite the lack of input from Phoenix. At the end of the interview, Letterman said "I'm sorry you couldn't be with us tonight Joaquin" - much to the auidences amusement. "The Late Show with David Letterman" is an American talk show that can be watched online on sites like youtube.com in the United Kingdom, but it is very popular in the US, and is a popular show on prime time television. There are several US talk show hosts, for example Conan O Brien, Jay Leno and Oprah winfrey, and I have seen segments from all of them, but in terms of style, approach and personality, I would have to say that David Letterman is my favourite. I first saw Letterman when it was shown late night on Sky One several years ago and now that I am subscibing to Ondigital noticed it was back on our screens on ITV2. Watching it again I was surprised how little the format had changed in the years since I had last seen the show. David Letterman is undoubtedly a polished and accomplished host with a right up to date script with the obligatory jokes at anyone who is in the public eye such as political figures and celebrities. It is clearly aimed at an American audience with some of the jokes and situations being obvious a mile off and subtlety not being much in evidence.
