Advantages: A few funny characters

Disadvantages: Turns into a poor show

Having seen a small sketch of this show yesterday on Comic Relief, it bought back all the memories I have had of watching this show in the past. My opinion will differ from most others, as having checked the past reviews for this show it seems that 99% of the people gave this five stars and thought it was hilarious.

For those of you who are not aware Little Britain is a sketch show featuring lots of different characters played by the main two stars who are David Walliams and Matt Lucas. Then on top of this there is narration from Tom Baker which makes the show a little bit different. There are also other actors who appear now and then like Anthony Head. For someone like Head who had earnt my respect for his role in Buffy he has now gone down to this mediocre level and his career seems in tatters.

This show seems to have won many comedy awards so must be doing something right and initially it does. The first season I thought was amusing and all the characters were fresh and new. There Vicki Pollard who played a chav teenager. This was a very funny exaggeration of what a lot of teenagers act like these days so many people who have experienced chavs, especially ones at the back of buses, will find this amusing.

Forgive me for not remembering many of the other characters names however they are unmemorable and include some gay characters a band worker that keeps using the catchphrase 'computer says no'.

I don't know if I just seem to have a weak sense of humour but these jokes do get boring fast. Specifically the woman character who whenever asked a question says 'computer says no'. Is this really that funny? Fair enough once used once or twice, but they use this phrase like ten times an episode and likes hundreds of times a series. OK they add a little twist to it every now and then but this is a pointless joke and they have no idea how to keep humour fresh. Move on and stop using the same jokes over and over.

It seems to be that everyone forgets the past joke and then repeats when the exact same joke is used on the next episode of this show. You might as well just watch a repeat as the jokes are nearly identical. Ok this is not as bad the Green Green Grass which I recently reviewed as there are some funny jokes, but I really think that Walliams and Lucas lost their direction after the first season.

As the seasons go on they literally try and find anything to put in the show and stoop to low forms of disgusting humour. Things like going for a dump and pissing is meant to be funny. Please someone comment and explain to me how this is funny?

There are people who do not like this show as they think it is offensive, and I am not particular one of these people, just I think some of the jokes are disgusting. I am surprised it has lasted as long as it has, and like I said with the Green Green Grass, if this was released in America they would have seen right through it and it would not have lasted very long at all.

Sketch shows can be funny, but characters and storylines need to be kept fresh and original. Resorting to vulgar humour can not be used over and over and repeating the jokes for the thousandth is a criminal offence. I for one will be turning the channel over if this is ever on again.

Yep I'm all for knowing that something funny will happen. I know Joey will say something stupid in Friends and yet it always makes me laugh or that Del Boy will say 'you plonker' when Rodney does something stupid.

But when they keep saying 'Computer Says No', over and over it really does start to get pretty dull.
