Advantages: Its so bad its very watchable (Through your fingers!)

Disadvantages: Its awful

A few years after he retired from football, Ian Wright has his own chat show on ITV which was actually pretty good with chat, good guests and great music, i'm not sure what happened in the meantime but this programme is a real shocker.

It has an element of fear you expect from any live show but much of this is due to the Blair Witch Project presenting style of its stars, they stare into the camera with a look that mixes true fear and a desire for it all to end, unfortunately it is something that transmits to viewers, although in someways this show is so bad that it is incredibly watchable.

Set in a studio, the three presenters were clearly not selected for their chemistry or journalistic backgrounds, we have Melinda Messenger an underwear model who is chirpy in an irritating way, Wrighty who is excellent talking about sport or music but really out of his depth on many of the weightier issues and Kate Walsh who apparently was a contestant on the Apprentice with Alan Sugar and is possibly the most nervy and irritating of the presenters with a blackboard scratching voice and a laugh that makes you shiver.

The show mixes current affairs with entertainment, basically what it does is talks about the days events has the odd celebrity interview and the guys sit and give their views with contributions from viewers (Which due to the awful nature of this show I presume are heavily edited).

The current affairs issues are a joke, its like watching Sesame Street cover the credit crunch, the presenters views are amiable but misguided and the mix of this with reality tv updates is facile and excruciating, the show has a real sense of panic about it, as you wonder what could go wrong, the presenters have the same sort of chemistry that Rod Hull and Emu showed with Parky many years ago, its like a school project that you have to endure, but on every single night of the week.

Credit to channel 5 for attempting a light hearted magazine show to match the One show but this has more in common with the Brits presented by Sam Fox and Mick Fleetwood or George Best turning up drunk on Wogan, its excruciating in every sense and one of the worst shows on television, but in a strange way much like granny's falling over on you've been framed you can't help but watch through your fingers!!

My problem with Ian Wright has always been that he seems to believe he's a better "TV personality" than he actually is.

Not even close to rivaling the One Show. x
