daytime TV at its best! (Loose Women)

Advantages: great fun

Disadvantages: not what is described as high quality viewing!

Loose Women is a personal favourite of mine. The gist of the program is that Kay Adams and a group of minor female celebrities, usually two gobby "northern birds" and one more conservative character, sit around discussing a number of topical issues (source: daily tabloids)in a brassy, yet throwaway manner. There is usually an equally Z-list celebrity guest, who has come on to discuss their latest ITV "venture", or reflect on their past career as a teen-heartthrob, to which several of the women will admit with great gusto to having had a poster of him on their wall, whereas the remaining woman will profess to being too young/old to know who this person is. Occasionally, a serious issue will be discussed.

I'm not sure if this program is meant to be ironic-indeed, at times some of the presenters seem guilty of intense self-parody. It apparently displays the triumph of women for the masses, yet at the same time scores a spectacular own goal for feminism, more often than not exposing the women on it as inarticulate and irrationally emotional creatures. Whether it is unfair to judge a low budget daytime TV program on its political achievements is beside the point. Loose Women is still a terrifically entertaining program for anyone with a hint of the post-modern about them. Indeed, it is a shame it is not on a bit later, as it truly is more fun with alcohol.

Summary: loads of fun for women of all ages!!
