MacGyver is an American TV series that ran from 1985 to 1992. It featured a government agent named Angus MacGyver and his adventures. The earlier seasons followed his exploits for the government and then subsequently the Phoenix Corporation, and the last 4 seasons focused on social issues and problems, with moral messages to send to viewers.
MacGyver is probably best known for the main characters's uncanny ability to create something out of nothing, and I don't mean salvaging a situation, I mean taking what look like a group of random objects and making something relevant to any situation. The use of brain over brawn was a reaction to the popularity of The A Team, who used muscle to overcome situations and beat the bad guys. MacGyver was like the A Team all rolled into one with some sensitivity thrown in for good measure.
The creativity of the character is often exaggerated. Only the other day I heard someone say they swore MacGyver once found himself in an airlocked room with a rubber band and some drawing pins, and he made a tank and drove through the wall. Naturally, they were joking, but sometimes the character's creativity was bordering the amazing. Interestingly enough, society recognises this program in any strange contraptions that have been made out of such household items, naming them MacGyverisms! Richard Dean Anderson was the actor lucky enough to play this marvellous character, and did so very well. Although he was the main character, there were other recurring characters such as Dana Elcar, who play Mac's former boss Pete, and Michael Des Barres plays Murdoc, Mac's enemy in a few episodes.
In conclusion, I enjoy watching reruns of MacGyver whenever I can see them. I would say I probably prefer Knight Rider and A Team, but MacGyver will always be something I enjoy watching.
Ok, picture the scene.....its the early eighties....you're trapped in a small hut in the middle of the desert...you're surrounded by 100 guerillas all pointing a machine gun at you.... all you have is a piece of paper....some chewing gum.....a piece of fluff you found in your pocket......and your trusty swiss army knife. Any normal person would be dead, but oh no! not MacGyver! MacGyver managed to get out of EVERY bad situation no matter what only with the use of stuff lying round....like a pebble, or a dead fish. He turned pebbles into machine guns, fish into tanks.... he truly was a genius. Macgyver was a bit like the A Team in that respect, they'd turn a feather into a huge tank and smash out of buildings....yet MacGyver was better than them as firstly he was on his own and secondly he was cleverer than that. He used to scale buildings and foil criminals using his sheer brain power, and still manage to have amazing fight scenes.....from what I can remember....I bet if I saw these fight scenes now I'd be amazingly dissappointed, I might resolve myself to never see a MacGyver episode again or I'll probably be dissappointed. Nevertheless when I was little MacGyver used to be the best show EVER! Me and my brother used to be allowed to stay up to watch him foil some criminals using a biro and a pom pom and were mesmerised by him for a whole hour. MacGyver has had a big influence upon my life. Even now when I make something like a BBQ out of beer cans (yes thank you...I did do this) I feel like MacGyver...which is a bit odd as I am a girl....but still I feel like I'm a genius like him. MacGyver is one of the great classics alongside The A Team, although he doesn't get the recognition he deserves. I say that he should be brought back onto TV and then he can truly shine and then he can see his cult status grow. Long live MacGyver!!!
This is a classic action TV show for me. I still remember I watched and love this TV program when I was about 13-16 years old, which means about 10 years ago. You can see how attractive this TV program is because it could attract a young kid's interest. In fact I still remember I liked to discuss this show among my friends, who are also "MacGyver" fans. I have to say that I have forgotten the actor's name who acted MacGyver in the show. However I still can remember he is a very handsome and smart guy. The thing that was really interesting about MacGyver is seemed like he can solve all the problems with stuff around him - make a bomb to burst the door in order to escape using pen, some flour and so on; make a weapon which is able to kill some bad guys by using some elastic plastic and so on; etc... In other words, it actually a chemistry and physic lecture when we, was-kids seeing this show. Well, sometimes we felt like learning something from the show too. For example, we shouldn't give up easily and so forth. Sounds very innocent yeah? Well kids are like that. However though I am adult, I do hope that I can still have a chance to see this show, cause this show is really exciting and interesting. I still hope I were MacGyver sometimes.
