Malcolm in the middle is a hilarious US TV comedy that shows on Sky One and Sky Two here in the UK, originally recorded for the Fox Network. The series started on January 8th 2000 and came to an end on May 14th 2006 - a six and a half year life span. Whilst no new episodes are being made, the series is still regularly shown on television.
Frankie Muniz stars as Malcolm, The middle child in a family of five boys, who is amazingly intelligent and therefore out of place with the rest of his family, he shares the usual young male interests, violence, sex and mischief. He is much less aggressive than his older brother Reese and enjoys the superiority he has over his younger brother Dewy. The boys have some really wacky parents, Lois and Hal, who are finding it hard to cope with the stresses of raising five boys although always just about managing, even if they do completely lose their dignity. I find this show funny as it reminds me of my own family, I'm one of three fairly closely born boys so a lot of the stunts are things I can relate to.
In a typical episode, the boys usually have some kind of mission or plan which goes wrong and they end up getting themselves in trouble. It might not be the boys that initiate it, the parents may decide that a family holiday is in order and it goes from there, a competition may be won, the family may even have financial difficulties and find that their refridgerator is being repossessed.
The theme tune has to get a mention here, the catchy "You're not the boss of me now" by They Might Be Giants" it's an absoloutely awesome soundtrack that really gives this show personality and recognition.
Summary: Love it!
