WHAT IS IT ABOUT:
Rob Brydon stars in this one man show comedy series about a taxi-cab driver who delivers monolgues to the camera instilled in his cab. The show ran for two seasons between 2000 and 2003. The monologues tend to be about his troubled relationship and friendships.
IS IT ANY GOOD:
Undoubtedly this show is powered by two things:
1) Rob Brydon: I've been a huge fan of Brydon for a long time, and his recent mainstream success as Uncle Bryn in Gavin and Stacey has only cemented my feelings for him. The guy is a comic genius - very quick witted and witty, yet disarming in his looks and Welsh accent. In this show, he brilliantly ellicits sympathy from the audience, who are able to decipher things he himself can't figure out. Brydon's acting skills are very underrated, as he is convincing in all his roles. I find him an intriguing guy to watch, and since he's the only person in this show, it's 100% Rob.
2) The dialogue - incredibly witty and bizarre, the dialogue ranges from bust a gut funny to incredibly moving. The viewer is put in a weird situation as we can work things out that Keith himself cannot calculate (such as his wife having an affair). It makes him all the more lovable as a character, and makes you all the more willing to laugh at him.
Season one was only ten minutes per episode, but series 2 consisted of the regular six episodes of thirty minute length, which was more of a chance to get into detail with this fascinating character.
IF YOU LIKED IT:
Try the also underrated 'Annually Retentive', a parody where Brydon plays a chat show host.
IN CONCLUSION:
Brilliantly witty dialogue and lovable character make this a fascinating show.
