Advantages: Extremely funny, Kelly is a babe and a half
Disadvantages: It is no longer made
Love and Marriage, love and marriage, go together like a horse and carriage, oops, I was getting carried away there, when I should be telling you about “Married with Children”. I have watched this American sitcom, for many a year, and never grow sick of it, I find it absolutely hilarious. Although the show is no longer made and the series is slightly dated, I still think it’s about the best of all the American sitcoms out there (apart from Friends, maybe). So what is the show all about? ----------------------------- I should imagine the majority of readers will have no doubt watched “Married with Children” at least once in their lives, and have no doubt that many of you have loved it, for various reasons. Married with Children was a comedy show, that run for a full decade, it was first shot in 1987 and the last series was shot during 1997, a total of 11 series were made, amassing an astonishing 259 episodes, as well as various specials. It was basically about a pretty wild and dysfunctional, but typical American family, called “The Bundy’s”, who were not exactly the type of neighbours you would desire (apart from Kelly that is), the characters were very good and the stories extremely funny. It was a very raunchy and at times degrading show, but excellent all the same. Characters: ----------- Al Bundy: --------- Without doubt, the star of the show, Al was a Shoe salesman (played by Ed O’Neill); The guy was your typical harassed Husband and Father, who was often found day dreaming of Beautiful woman and the day he scored a load of touch-downs, in a High school “American Football” match, he was a wise-cracker, who was mostly noted for slumping on the couch, with his hand down the front of his trousers watching hours of TV and his hatred of Fat woman and their neighbour Marcy, and having to hand out all his hard earned wages,
to his money-grabbing wife and kids, he also dreaded the thought of having to sleep with Peggy, his wife. Peg Bundy: ---------- Peg was Al’s lazy, no good for nothing, money-spending wife (played by Katey Sagal); Peggy was renowned for her total reluctance to do any house-work, cooking, etc and totally bled all of Al’s money out of him, often going off on shopping trips, which landed them in all kinds of debt. Kelly Bundy: ------------ Kelly was you typical gorgeous but empty headed blonde babe (played by the super sexy, Christina Applegate); Kelly was renowned for her loose attitude to boy’s and was forever getting ripped to bit’s for her stupid comments, especially by her younger brother Bud. She was forever bringing home men that were much older than her, to which some were very strange characters. Bud Bundy: ---------- Bud was a perverted, typical teenage lad (played by David Faustino); He was forever dreaming of finally getting rid of his virginity with some super sexy women, and was often found trying to be a more mature cool dude with some gorgeous model, only to be found out, to being the spotty teenage lad he was. Marcy D’Arcy: ------------- Marcy was their snobby and uptight next-door neighbour (played by Amanda Bearse); she was known for her real snobbish and feminist attitude and was hated by Al, and she hated him, she loved to dominate her husbands Steve and Jefferson, and belittle the Bundy’s. Steve Rhoades: -------------- Steve was Marcy’s first husband (played by David Garrison); Steve was renowned for being a wimp and a real mummy’s boy type, he was forever getting advice off Al on how to be more manly, Steve eventually left Marcy and got a job as a Park Ranger somewhere far away. Jefferson D’Arcy: ----------------- Jefferson was Marcy’s second husband (played by Ted McGinley); Jeffer
son was well renowned for being a bit of a lazy geezer, who never had a job and would live of Marcy’s income, he was forever around at Al’s watching TV or secretly planning things behind Marcy’s back, only to back out once she found out. I would like to write about a favourite episode, but it’s just too hard, as there was too many and not one sticks out in my mind, so I’ll have to leave it. The shows actually caused out-rage in parts of America, due to its raunchiness, vulgar language and sexual innuendo content, it was often threatened with censorships and closedowns, as it upset one or two religious objectors, and was forced to be switched to a later time, so children could not watch it. The show can currently be seen on the Paramount Channel on weekdays at 8.00 PM, but unfortunately doesn’t run in episodes, it’s just a case of an old episode here and a new episode there.

- 09/08/01 Not seen it in a while but I used to watch this program quite a lot, doesn't appeal to everyone though. I felt it got a bit worse after one of the neighbours left though. |
