Description: Competition for cooks.

Newest Review: ... many of the rounds and often seems to just echo what Michel says. Maybe he is as in awe of Michel as so many of the contestants seem to be. WHat ever the reason I miss the chemistry between John Torode and Greg when the disagree on pretty much everything. Greg just plays the role of a yes man on this show and it isn't as good for that. Overall, this show makes a decent watch but can feel a ... more

Premium Review Masterchef the Professionals - a marathon story (474 words)

This review will cover the recently ended series of Masterchef: The Professionals, which finished last night on BBC2 having run for the last several weeks. The format of the show is this - professional chefs compete for the title of professional masterchef in a show similar to the regular Masterchef format. The presenters are different - Masterchef staple Greg Wallace is there, but John Torode is replaced by Michel Roux Jnr who is an esteemed chef (as the programme never misses the oppotunity to point out. The chefs are invited to Masterchef HQ where they are first put through some skills tests to earn the right to cook for Michel. They have 15 ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Boring Cookery Nonsense (225 words)

I watch this programme because I love food and my husband loves cookery programmes. I wouldn't watch it out of choice, because it just isn't that inspiring. However, I think it is worth switching on for the final, as you get to see some really posh cooking and it means a bit more and so can be a bit more exciting. The worst thing about this programme is the annoying way the presenters talk, I should say SHOUT at each other. They are basically talking to camera saying that it is a tough competition because all the competitors are talented chefs. They say that every week but find a new way of saying it and rather than saying it to camera they say it to each ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Masterchef: Cooking competition for (so-called) 'professional' chefs (650 words)
by - written on 22/10/09 (Very useful, 68 readings)

The latest version of the TV show 'Masterchef - the Professionals', which this time features (notionally) professional cooks has been showing on every weeknight except Fridays, and twice on Thursdays on BBC2, for at least the last four weeks. It's required quite a commitment from the viewers to stick with this marathon schedule but though the programme has a very repetitive format, it's easy to watch, undemanding and quite entertaining really. The general 'Masterchef' format has been around for ages - since the 1980s at least, when it was presented for years and years by dreadful, transatlantic front-man Lloyd Grossman. (Fortunately there are new ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Masterchef: The Professionals (449 words)

Ah yes, Masterchef. Gone are the days of Lloyd Grossman mulling over the red, blue and yellow kitchens, and instead two chefs-cum-critics - Greg Wallace and John Torode - over see the whole concept...and then there's Masterchef: The Professionals, which sees mega chef Michel Roux Jr. casting his eye over proceedings. Made by Shine Productions, it's a knock out competition that pits chefs from across the country against one another. In this review; the "Professionals" version, we expect to see the highest quality of food, in some of the most testing of conditions. To begin with, a few chefs go up against each other in a seemingly basic ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Masterchef: The cooking competition is back (349 words)
by - written on 18/10/09 (Very useful, 15 readings)
Rating:

Masterchef is one of those programs on telly that you would not think would be very entertaining but you always find yourself drawn into watching it and picking up some ideas that you think you could do yourself. The program is a cooking competition which is now presented by Gregg Wallace and John Torode who took over presenting the show in 2005 when it underwent a huge new makeover following on from the show losing a large amount of its fanbase following Llod Grossman leaving the show. The show itself is a cooking show for those who are normal and everyday people looking to change their life by puting their love of cooking to the challenge and improving their ...  Read the complete review
