Advantages: Very watchable

Disadvantages: Overdramatic

Masterchef is the popular TV programme that pitches various amateur cooks against each other to win the coveted title.

Presented by Gregg Wallace and John Torode, two chefs who unsurprisingly have exacting standards and palates, the presenters do demonstrate a passion for taste and ingredients. Not gimmicky or playing for laughs like some other cookery programmes, it is also a showcase for cooks who excel.

The quality of the contestants is very high and the food produced ranges from everyday favourites with a twist to the new and very different. Essentially it is also a competition and one that is hard fought and quite prestigious.

What I find funny/infuriating about the programme is the over dramatic voiceover and music! (Dramatic piano chord!) 'Sheila is struggling...will she be able to keep it together?' There is also a celebrity masterchef which takes overstatement to new levels, last time I watched it the voiceover announced that Viki Michelle (Allo Allo) was 'an acting legend' !

'And the Oscar for most overdramatic voiceover goes to...'

Summary: Cookery programme without the gimmickry
