Match of the Day 2

Date: 25/07/09

Rating:

Advantages: good features, more light hearted than motd, funny

Disadvantages: on a bit late on a Sunday

Match of the Day 2 is a football highlights show a bit like the main Match of the Day programme on Saturday evening but is a more light hearted look at the weekends premier league football action. It is broadcast on Sunday evenings on BBC 2 after Sundays games in the premiership around 1030pm. It features mainly highlights and analysis from the games on Sunday as well as a roundup of Saturdays action.

As it is hosted by a presenter who is also a football fan (Adrian Chiles who supports West Brom who currently just got relegated from the Premiership) it offers a show that is maybe considered less serious and geared more towards the real fans of football. There are community features on clubs as well as a report from usually one ground each week which spends the day with the fans of that particular club.

There is also a feature called 2 Good, 2 Bad which looks at some funny moments dring the weekends action.

The main pundits currently on the show include Lee Dixon ,Alan Shearer, Alan Hansen,Mark Bright ,Les Ferdinand, Graham Poll ,Martin Keown ,Tony Adams who offer an insight and analysis on the games and also other current issues in the footballing world. There are also guest appearances sometimes from some current and former premier league managers as well as sometimes players.

Match of the day 2 is a good addition to Match of the day and is more entertaining and funny then the original show at times despite not having as much in terms of the football action. Chiles is entertaining and funny as the presenter and is supported well by the other pundits and guests. Overall a great last look at the weekends football action from the top league in England probably the world!

Summary: good football show
