Advantages: No adverts, Good coverage, Theme song

Disadvantages: No more eye candy presenters

Well, after two seasons of getting our general premier league footy updates from ITV's 'The Premiership' we have returned to the regular slot of 10:30pm on a Saturday evening. Brilliant! We no longer have to put up with Bono telling us how beautiful a day it is and little computer footy players bouncing around to an annoying "tikka tikka tikka" sound. And even better, no more adverts! So we are back now with Gary Lineker presenting and Alan Hanson slating the defence of every team playing. Not quite as pleasing on the eye as Gaby Yorath/Logan, however.

Now, I know this is a matter of opinion, but I've always preferred the coverage the BBC supply over that of ITV. Often, I found that 'The Premiership' only really paid attention to games that involved top flight teams, notably Arsenal and Man Utd, and especially towards the end of last season. Now, hopefully, we can start to get a better view at the action that happens throughout the entire league, not just one of the best teams in the country trouncing some mid-table team. The commentary supplied watching the highlights are usually succinct and to the point. As well as this, the round up at the end of the highlights section are usually to the point and fairly interesting, and clue you in to what's happening very well if you're not an avid football follower.

On top of all this, we can also sing along to the theme song, which I am sure has been a ringtone on the phones of nearly every single football fan with a mobile. Top stuff, and (IMO) something finally worth watching on TV on those lonely saturday nights.

Welcome back MOTD!

I still think Alan Partridge was the best football commentator on The Day Today.

"Sh* t, did you see that? ... Tw*t! Liquid football. That ... was a goal."

I think everyone's guilty of following the title contenders towards the end of the season, though.
