Advantages: Grittier sort of Ghost Whisperer, Believable characters, Fab stories to keep you guessing and intere
Disadvantages: I dont have the other seasons yet!!
I am fairly new to this show after a friend (a fellow Ghost Whisperer fan) recomended it to me. I had seen the adverts on TV and kept meaning to watch it but just never got round to it. I bought the first seson box set a week ago and have watched th entire thing already!! Im hooked.
There are 16 episodes in the first season and these introduce you to our protgonist Allison DuBois played by Patricia Arquette this role won Arquette an Emmy in 2005 for outstanding lead actress in a Drama Series. The first few episodes introduce you to Allison and her family and Allisons interesting abilities. We discover very quickly that Allison can see and speak to the dead. I know this sounds quite similar to Ghost Whisperer in a way but it differs in the way that it i snot another a programme about a psychic crossing over spirits. Not only does Allison see and speak to spirits but she has dreams that give her clues about crimes both past and present (infact one episode also features a future crime).
Allison works as an intern at the DA's office and is hoping to study for her Law degree but quickly realises that she can use her ability to help people. She becomes a consultant for the DA but they keep her special abilities secret. She never felt like she could fit in to society before but her new role helps her to feel needed like she has a reason! Her new role takes her to different locations and different situations all as thrilling and intriguing as the last.
Along with the law enforcement aspect of her life we see Allison in her home life struggling to be the perfect mother to her three young daughters (Ariel, Bridget and Marie )and trying to be a good wife to her husband (Joe) who always seems to resent Allisons 'Gift'. Even more so when we find out that her two elder daugthers Ariel and Bridget both have abilities of their own.
This show has the potential to come across as a 'Ghost Whisperer' rip off but it really isnt. Its 'grittier' and darker and slightly more gruesome at times. The relationships between characters are slightly more realistic and even the situations themselves are slightly more believable. I am a huge 'Ghost Whisperer' fan but now I definitely have room for 'Medium' in my life.
Summary: Dark, gritty, Crime/Psychic drama that promises to entertain
