Men Behaving Badly is a British sitcom that ran for six seasons from 1992. It centres on two men sharing a flat going about their daily routine, and how they try in vain to cling on to the their youth. It was written and created by Simon Nye.

Gary is the main character, and was played by Martin Clunes. Gary is misguided, and runs a failing burglar alarm sales company. He is trying to hold on to his youth but as a thirty-something male merely conforms to a 90s stereotype, chasing 'birds' and loving 'booze'. In the first season, he is joined by the underachieving Dermot, played by comic genius Harry Enfield, but Dermot only lasted one season before being replaced by Tony, played extremely immaturely by Neil Morrissey. Tony is an underachiever like Dermot, and races through a variety of jobs unsuccessfully, including working behind the bar at the local pub.

Bringing a sense of normality to the 'bachelor pad' of Gary and Tony are Dorothy, Gary's girlfriend, played by Caroline Quentin, and Deborah, the girl who lives in the same building as Gary and Tony, played by Leslie Ash. Dorothy is constantly exacerbated by Gary's stupid acts, and nearly dumps him a number of times before finally moving in, and getting even more annoyed with him! Tony is obsessed with Deborah, or Debs as he calls her, and is dogged in his efforts to win her love. Very misguided, but dogged and genuine. Debs does eventually give in, but not for long!

When the show ended, I was gutted. For me, it was a real treat to watch an episode of this. I felt it epitomised life in the 90s, and watching the reruns now, I can associate with much of the laddish behaviour of men trying to be youthful and immature. The show was tremendously popular once it made the transition from ITV to BBC in the early series, although it provoked a little controversy as it touched on a lot of delicate issues undelicately! This, howevr, did not bother me in the slightest. Top stuff!

Summary: Men Behaving Badly - mainly for the men
