Advantages: Real life stories and great art work
Disadvantages: A bit samey
Miami Ink is a reality tv show about a tattoo studio in Miami run by two friends Ami James and Chris Nunez. The show can be seen all the time on digital channel DMAX.
Each episode features a number of different tattoo customers and charts their experience at Miami Ink. We get to know the reasons behind why they want the certain tattoo that they do, which often has a sad emotional story attached involving tragedy or triumphing over the odds. It's the real life stories in the show that attracts the viewers just as much as seeing the artists at work.
As well as James and Numez the show also features three other artists Chris Garver, Darren Brass, and Kat Von D. Kat is only in some of the episodes as she was recruited after the show started and then left following disagreements with Ami James and was given her own spin off show LA Ink.
As well as the established artists there is Ami's loyal apprentice Yoji Harada who is a general assistant around the studio.
We get to know the characters of the people in Miami Ink and a bit about their lives, which is really interesting. All the characters are fairly likeable, and clearly all very talented. It's not the sort of show I'd normally watch, but I discovered it once when I was flicking through the channels and it drew me in.
I especially like Chris Garver as I think he's comes across as a very nice man and the most talented artist. If I were to ever get 'ink done' he'd be my man!!
Summary: A real Miami tattoo studio at work
