MinderNewest Review: ... successful first series it developed the comedy aspects far more, with far less use of violence and nudity to titillate the viewing public. Minder's blend of drama and comedy (along with some excellent scriptwriting) seemed to hit a chord with viewers in the UK, and the show simply ran and ran, with no fewer than 10 series and 109 episodes between 1979 and 1994. Even when Waterman finally left the programme at the end of the 8th series in 1989 the show still continued for a further two series, with actor Gary Webster taking on Waterman's role as Ray Daley, a nephew of Arthur. Waterman performed the theme tune for Minder, "I Could ... more |

"Minder" was the jewel in the crown of ITV comedy/drama for nigh on 15 years, from 1979 to 1994. Initially it was devised as a vehicle for the talents of one of the main stars, Dennis Waterman, who has finished his long run as DS George Carter in the ITV crime series "The Sweeney" the previous year. Almost right from the very first episode it became apparent that there was an amazing chemistry between Waterman and George Cole, the British actor who took the part of loveable Cockney rogue Arthur Daley. If you live in the UK or Ireland then you'd have to have been living in suspended animation never to have watched Minder, as even to this day ... Read the complete review

Minder was an eighties drama comedy which was a big hit at the time and can still be seen on cable these days. The show had a strong cast with the lead roles being taken by George Cole who played Arthur Daley a cockney wheeler dealer and Dennis Waterman who played his much put upon minder Terry. Waterman had starred in the really successful Sweeney series however these days he is probably only known to younger generations through the send ups he gets on Little Britain. I will always think of Cole as the bookie to St Trinians, Flash Harry, in the original St Trinians films. These one hour shows are very funny with some great performances, the real quality is in ... I only caught some of Minder when I was very young in the 80's. I am really enjoying the repeats being shown by ITV - it is the best show on tv at present I think! I would agree that the plots for each episode are often very similar, but I still enjoy watching it very much. The guest appearances by actors and actresses who have gone on to become ver yfamous is always good to see. In an episode this week Mike Reid, Frank Butcher from Eastenders, was in an episode and he had all his hair then but his voice was still a bit croaky! The partnership of Arfur and Terry is great and I will continue to watch Minder for the rest of the holidays. ... Read the complete review

Areally good classical comedy with arthur daley as the typical london spiv selling everything and everything to make his living, and terry played by the brilliant dennis waterman stars as arthurs minder. The comedy is fast and fun, but serious too, arthurs fave drink is a vat, no reference to his obvious dislike of taxmen. Well worth a watch as repeat runs seem to be everywhere and the show is just as watchable second time around. Whilst their is violence in the programme, it is still suitable for youngsters in my opinion. ... Read the complete review
