Advantages: Very Very Funny
Disadvantages: We need a new series!
Mock the week has been described as a dumbed down version of 'Have I got news for you' which is a little harsh, but I can see where it comes from.
Have I got news for you delivers topical satire at it's very best.
Mock the Week delivers laugh out loud topical comedy like no other.
The undoubted star of the show is Frankie Boyle, the foul mouthed, no holds barred comedian from Scotland - his quick fire whit and insults have created the majority of laughs whenever I've watched the programme. But that is not to say that the other panelists aren't of equal stature.
Russell Howard is great (much better on MOTW than he is doing stand-up in my opinion), and it's great to see Hugh Dennis back on top form so many years after the Mary Whitehouse Experience days.
The quiz is hosted and chaired by Irish stalwart Dara O'brian, who again can hold his own in a comedy fight!
For me the best part of the show is the 'scenes we'd like to see' round as this gets the comedians to think on their feet and deliver quick fire comedy gold - and you can tell how good the comedy is in this round as once the likes of Hugh and Frankie get going, the guest panelists barely get a word in and can usually be seen in stitches stood to the side!
So yes, it's not as clever and intelligent as the likes of Have I got news for you, but it will certainly deliver more laughs per minute - and that's what counts on a comedy show.
Summary: Great topical comedy.

- 16/06/09 I think they probably have some pre-warning as to what questions will come up, but alot of the comedy is made up on the spot - Jeremy Clarkson once said the same of Have I got news for you, then apologised once he'd hosted the show as he saw for himself how quick whitted the panelists were with no script. |

- 16/06/09 i love watching this on Dave most nights. I like Hugh Dennis better, athough his Jimmy savaille impression can start to get on your nerves. They should employ Hugh for a insurance commercial, great at taking the micky out of these. |
