Monty Python's Flying CircusNewest Review: ... coherent and enjoyable show. CAST * GRAHAM CHAPMAN had previously worked with John Cleese on more low-key comedy shows. Tall and striking, Graham mostly portrayed authority figures such as policemen and, most notably, an army colonel. Graham?s acting background meant he would always land the lead roles in the team?s future epics ?Quest for the Holy Grail? and ?Life of Brian,? playing King Arthur and Brian of Nazareth respectively. Struggling with alcohol in his earlier life, Chapman sadly died of cancer in ... more |

One of the most successful comedy shows of all time aired on BBC 1 from 1969 to 1972, and spawned four feature films and a global fan base unlike any other. Well, perhaps Star Trek. I have restrained myself from reviewing this groundbreaking and often surreal BBC comedy for a long time, simply because I didn?t feel I could do it justice, but having watched a large amount of episodes recently I feel it?s as good a time as any. In 1969, the BBC decided to put together a group of ex-Oxford and Cambridge graduates, now all in their late 20s or early 30s, with the brief to produce a high ... Read the complete review

Monty Python's Flying Circus is one of the most well-known comedy series in the world, both within the UK and perhaps even more so in America. The foolish, surreal, often-pointless and offensive works of well-educated comic geniuses Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin did not fail to capture the imaginations of an entire set of generations with catch-phrases such as "it is an ex-parrot", "no one expects the Spanish Inquisition" and "I'm a lumberjack" occasionally lost their comedy value when repeated whenever something in that vein would be mentioned. The best thing for me ... Read the complete review

'Monty Python's Flying Circus' is possibly the greatest comedy sketch show ever made on television. Mixing surrealism, absurd situations, intellectual humour and outright silliness, this programme is an inspiration to ever sketch show since its inception in 1970 with wonderfully ludicrous sketches with titles like 'I was a Hetrosexual', 'Confessions of a Cheese Addict' 'Mr. Pither' and 'Poofy Judges'. All in all there were 44 episodes stretched over four series. The last series was made without John Cleese who thought he was 'carrying the show' (but Python is funny collectively and not because of one writer and ... Read the complete review

Monty Python has done for comedy what several very good artists has done for art, revolutionised it and brought less mainstream main- stream tastes into the fray. For instance, pre 1968 it was considered a great offence to laugh at a man in a dress, but by 1972 it was all the rage, and every kid in the schoolyard wanted their very own floral ankle high dress. Pokemon eat your heart out! Created by several unemployed, largely talentless men with but one ambition, to wear a dress, Monty Python’s Flying Circus took late night BBC2 viewers by storm. The Beeb received so many phone calls that they had to literally employ one or two people to inform callers ... Read the complete review

I panicked. "Monty Python's Flying Circus" was conceived, written by and starred: Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin. As noted by the Wonderful Ptyhonet.org. They got together following a stint together at Cambridge and began a stunningly popular TV series in 1969. The plot.............? ----------------------- Well, what can I say here? The series was essentially a sketch show, lots of different bits strung together to make the entire nation (and many others) fall about laughing. The Sketches tended to have some form of coherance though, there were certain ... Read the complete review
