The Lionel Blair Witch Project
Member Name: huggy2009
Advantages: Unconvincing, tries to hard
Disadvantages: Comedic in an unintentional way
Shown at 9pm on Tuesdays on Living TV, this programme is one of the best comedies on satellite television, the show is presented by Yvette Fielding a former Blue Peter presenter who has fallen on hard times, she is spikey and humourous but overall she is simply a foil for the created chaos around her.
The idea of the show is that the crew including Fielding, Brian a psychic and Ciaran a Parapsychologist (Is that really a real title or simply a name for somebody who can find a real explanation for trees rattling and things going bang in a room with a television crew?).
The show gets the cameramen, sound people and make up staff involved to give it a lo-fi 'Blair Witch Project' feel to it, the show builds up the paranormal history of a place and then places the psychic (overblown, elaborate and really unrealistic) at the centre of it with a crew of 'real' television people who may or may not be believers to give it authenticity.
My problem with the programme is that we have to believe these peoples intentions are true, they are a film crew trying to get ratings if they go somewhere and its just a quiet house are they still going to hear bangs, voices etc to add to the ratings, personally I really think so as i'm sure if you or I went to these places things would be fine.
This programme follows a long history of people claiming to speak to the dead, its fairly laughable and although some may find it useful to them, the psychic generally comes across as a real comedy creation parodying themselves to high heaven while the show itself seems to me to be self made rather than real. Its purely my opinion and is well worth at least half an hour of your time to make up your own mind if you can handle night photography, squealing camp men and people pretending to be/not be scared when really they are doing a job.
