Advantages: Rowan is so talented

Disadvantages: Not my brand of humour

A widely acclaimed British comedy series, that was sold around the world. I liked Mr Bean as a child, though it has absolutely no appeal to me at all as an adult. The humour is childish, inane, irreverent and silly; though I can understand how a certain type of adult may enjoy him.

I now find him utterly stupid and always suspected he had un undiagnosed mental illness which grated on me a lot; and actually made me feel utterly sympathetic for him as audiences laughed their way through each installment of Bean.

My hunch is that if Mr Bean was made today if wouldn't attract even half the 18 million people that tuned in in for the final Mr Bean in 1992. Is it at all possible that the series only attracted the figures it did because there was literally nothing else on at that time!?

Maybe I've become conditioned to modern comedy and simply find this series slightly dated....there is no sex, no swearing, no bawdiness. Just simple, gentle, old-fasioned Laurel and Hardy-esque comedy which is escapist humour at best but really does not make me laugh in the way it was possibly intended.

Rown Atkinson is is a terrifc actor but I simply don't enjoy this brand of humour. I prefer his wit and abilities in Blackadder.

Summary: Over-rated sillyness - just not for me
