MTV Hits

Newest Review: ... first place as you get to the music at channel 350 (recently changed from 340). MTV Hits sits just after it, and I actually prefer it to MTV itself. This is mainly because I like the music channles for the music videos as opposed to the features on MTV, which now includes entertainment shows such as Hogan Knows Best and The Hills. Another interesting concept introduced by MTV Hits a few years into its existence was the promotion of particular artists or tracks, often highlighting a new album by a couple of programmes featuring a specific artist. Although this aspect stops the channel showing non-stop music, it is only a brief foray away fr... more

Premium Review MTV Hits: MTV provide the hits! (335 words)

When MTV was created in the mid-1990s, it served to give us non-stop music, both current and favourites from previous years. With the advent of various music discussion shows as well as entertainment slots allocated by MTV, the musical video side of the channel started to suffer, and, in 2002, MTV launched MTV Hits, a channel that promises to play current chart music as well as popular and cult classics. This channel has become perhaps more popular than the original MTV channel, although the original still has the pride of place among the Sky music channels, sitting in first place as you get to the music at channel 350 (recently changed from 340). Premium Review Mad about pop? I'm livid! (682 words)

During June, MTV Hits has featured as the guest channel on ntl digital TV. So although I don't usually subscribe to the package that includes MTV Hits, I have had the pleasure of having free access to it. And I am now realizing that it's a dubious pleasure. It's a channel I will definitely do my utmost to avoid in the future. The channel's slogan is "As mad about pop as you are". Hmm. From what I can tell, most of the "shows" on this channel are called, simply, "Non-stop pop". It's end to end pop videos, with no annoying presenters in between, or chatting inanely over the videos. So far, so ...  Read the complete review

Do you like advertising? Do you watch TV for the gaps in between the scheduled viewing? Do you like your music sanitised and pre-packaged? Do you have faith in the myth of rock? Is the visual impact of music more important to you than the music itself? Do you have the attention span and memory of a goldfish? Do you like to be sold an ideology in the shape of entertainment? Then welcome to the world of MTV and it’s benign process of subliminal advertising, media manipulation and the promotion of the corporate view of the spirit of ‘rock n’ roll’. MTV from its creation in the early 1980’s has promoted itself as a new and ...  Read the complete review

MTV Hits started off life as a one hour, three-times a week segment on MTV UK and Ireland. It then became a two hour daily programme. Now heres the dumb bit... It then filled half of MTV Extra... ...Now its a 24 hour channel on Sky! Argh! However, the slogan "non stop pop" is a bit misleading. There are programmes! No!!! And ads!!! Its just filler for an old MTV frequency... dont bother with it. Unless you like S Club 7. My sister does! Its on channel 441 on sky FWIW. ...  Read the complete review

Ingredients 1x MTV Stance to music 5000x Pop videos 10,000x Adverts Recipe Mix together slowly for a few minutes until mushy and over-produced. Then slowly add more and more pop music until takes the complexion of a popstar. Yep, there we go. With MTV Hits, the new sattelite and cable channel from those awful people at MTV. What is it? This channel is nothing but back-to-back videos. But the worst part about it is that the channel ONLY PLAYS POP. That's right: MTV have taken all the worst music in the world and put it together on one cable channel... AAH! How do I delete channels from my TV??
