Advantages: family viewing
Disadvantages: stopped making new episodes
This programme first hit our screens in 1984 and ran until 1996 so for 12 years viewers enjoyed watching Angela Lansbury as the mystery/crime writer J.B.Fletcher.
She came from a small place in Maine called Cabot Cove and yes it was predictable because you always knew that wherever she went there was sure to follow a murder. In her own little town that was fine the police there were happy for her help but outwith there she did step on a few toes to prove that she knew who the killer was. I had to admire her determination TV or not most people if the police say back off they do.
As far as I remember there were only 4 movies ever made:
Murder, She Wrote: South By Southwest 1997
Murder, She Wrote: A Story To Die For 2000
Murder, She Wrote: The Last Free Man 2001 &
Murder, She Wrote: The Celtic Riddle 2003
All TV films.
Angela Lansbury in my opinion has never done a bad piece and this is no exception. Its just quailty that we don't see anymore, family fun there's no sex scenes or extreme violence that would make it unsuitable for younger viewers.
At the moment it is being shown on BBC at 2.35 (not over the festive fortnight) and I'm loving every minute of it. Granted its predicatable and has a flaw or two but show me a perfect show.
The cast are great too there is an apparent chemistry amongst the regulars:
Angela Lansbury : Jessica Fletcher
Willam Windom : Dr Seth Hazlitt
Tom Bosley : Sheriff Amos Tupper 1984 - 1988
Ron Masak : Sheriff Mort Metzger 1989 - 1996
Great TV the way it should be.
Can be bought on amazon for about £3 per video not sure about shops as I have looked but so far not seen it.
