This is without doubt one of the best comedy sitcoms on television and just keeps getting better with every seires. Based around the Harper family, father Ben is a dentist and is a rather reluctant role model to his three children. However, deep down I'm sure he really does love his family. His wife Susan, is a tour guide and a rather inventive cook, which leads to her family often going hungry. She is described as "one of the most embarassing parent's in the world" by her son and is constantly getting over involved in the love lives of her kids. The oldest son is Nick, who has not appeared in recent series but was a source of much humour in earlier episodes, he went from job to job, from magician to paint mixer and from piano tuner to undetaker. He was the ulimate irritation to his father and was always been encouraged to fly the nest. The other woman in the Harper household is Janie, the middle child of Ben and Susan. Obssessed by boys and fashion, much happiness was brought to the Harper family when Janie left for Manchester univeristy, only to return sometime later with a child of her own, Kenzo. The identity of Kenzo's father has only just been revealed in the new series and Janie was finding it hard to cope with this new addition to her son's life. The youngest of the Harper clan is Michael. Swatty, intelligent and spends his time looking at the Tokoyo stock market. His father often struggles to understand him but he affectinatly refers to his son as "Mikey, Mikey, Mikey". Other members of the Harper household include Abby, the daughter of Ben's cousin, she is dizzy, blonde but loveable all the same. She has recently become engaged to Ben's fellow dentist Roger. Alfie is the newest addition to the family, as a friend of Nick's. He enjoys singing Welsh folk songs and playing his guitar.
Some of the best moments in the show include Ben been convinced by michael that aliens exist, Susan thinking she has killed her American boss, Susan and Ben taking up dancing lessons and Ben been locked in the cellar of the house with a rat.
The seventh series has just began on the BBC and recent episodes have seen Susan trying to liven up her love life with Ben and the couple renewing their wedding vows.
The My Family Christmas Specials have become a key part of the BBC festive season and have seen the family been stuck on the underground, Janie getting married but then falling in love with someone else at the reception and Nick pretending he has been kidnapped in the jungle to get money from his family.
The first six series are now available to buy on DVD from HMV, Amazon or even cheaper on Ebay.
Repeats of the earlier series are also on UKTV Gold and the new series can be seen on BBC1 at 8.30pm on a Friday.

Although I like this programme I get put off by the unnecessary canned laughter throughout. Without that it would be much more enjoyable. Good review though.
