Advantages: Great actors, funny one liners, good family sitcom, good time slot, repeated

Disadvantages: Kris Marshall not being in it anymore

My Family is in my opinion is currently the funniest British sitcom on TV. It is based around a modern family of Mum - Susan (Zoe Wannamaker) , Dad - Ben (Robert Lindsey) and teenager son Michael, 20 something year old daughter Janey, Alfie who is a Welsh relative and niece Abbey and her boyfriend Roger who is one of Ben's work colleagues.

The older series also have Nick (Kris Marshall), the eldest son, who is brilliant. He is a bit of an idiot and always coming up with some crazy scheme that drives Ben mad. For me, Nick was the best character and the older episodes with him in it are the funniest, although in the recent series, Mikey has become more witty and has taken over from where Nick left off, although he is the clever one, totally opposite from Nick.

Susan is always cooking weird things for dinner that no one likes. Ben is a dentist and would love some peace and quiet in his own house for a change!

Janey is a young Mum to her little boy Kenso who makes an appearance from time to time. She is man, fashion and money obsessed and doesn't care who knows it. She's always trying to get money out of her parents.

Mikey is the clever one who never lets an opportunity slip away. Alfie is so laid back, and just takes things in his stride. Abbey is very ditzy and is a great pairing with naïve Roger! The characters work so well together and the banter just flies around.

It is a sitcom based around family life, but there is always some drama going on which usually revolves around one of the characters, and the house is always in total mayhem. There are a lot of witty one liners in this programme, and it does make me laugh out loud.

If you hate sitcoms in general then there will probably be nothing here to change your mind, but I would give it a watch as you might surprise yourself. I personally only like certain sitcoms, some I think are dreadful, but I love My Family, and do record the new series if I am going to be out on a Friday Although it is a sitcom, most of the episodes deal with everyday life, although there are the odd episodes which are a bit on the silly side.

It is a great family show, although it does have references to sex and some mild adult humour in it. It is aired on Fridays at 9.00pm on BBC1, with a repeat on Sunday evenings, although there are loads of repeats of the older series on UKTV Gold at various times throughout the day.

Summary: A great family sitcom that is always funny.
