My Family - I could like it more if it was more natural and less contrived (My Family)

Advantages: Great actors

Disadvantages: Too 'sit-commy', too 'Americanised' and canned laughter

I sort of like this programme but it irritates me that I do! It can be very funny at times and Robert Lindsay is a national treasure in the UK - he is one of our finest actors which is what decided me to watch it when it first started. I am surprised he decided to be the star of the show because it is so 'sit-commy' with it's canned laughter, predictable plots, over-hammed acting and 'Americanised' room settings, which I know ensures that you can get the whole scene as it plays out but, because of this, it lacks the authenticity of, say, 'The Royle Family'.

Zoe Wanamaker is a very good actress but I don't think they truly work as a couple; however, I love Kris Marshall because he is naturally funny and has been given the best part of all with the funniest lines - it is that that has kept me watching it. I'll be honest, though, I do not make a point of watching it - if it happens to be on when nothing else is, then it gets my attention.

I do wish they would make it less contrived, though, but the formula must work because there always seems to be a series either showing or in production and they crop up regularly on satellite TV, too.

Summary: I wish I could like it more!
