Advantages: Lighthearted TV entertaimment
Disadvantages: Can get stupid at times
My Family is a British Sitcom that first broadcast on BBC one in 2000. It has grown in popularity since this time at to this day nine series have so far been made. Created by American Fred Barron the programme centres round the fictional Harper family and their day to day lives. Sounds quite boring but is actually a very quirky family show which im sure many people - especially parents can relate too.
CAST:
The two main characters in this show are Robert Lindsay and Zoe Wanamaker who play troubled parents Ben and Susan Harper. Ben and Susan have three children Nick, Janey and Michael who are played by Kris Marshall (the man in the BT ads), Daniella Denby Ashe (ex-eastenders) and Gabriel Thompson.
In later series a couple more estranged family members appear on the scene in Bens First Cousin Abi, dentist Roger and Nicks friend Alfie.
ABOUT THE FAMILY
The storylines are centrered around the chaotic lives of the Harpers who never have a dull moment. Ben is a dentist and Susan a tour guide who live in Chiswick, London. The parents clash as Ben is the laid-back 'lets let the children get on with it' kind of bloke whereas Susan tries to control everything in her power. Nick is a mellow layabout, Janey is slightly wild and Michael is the intelligent (kind of) normal one.
In later episodes Janey goes off to University but later returns to the show after having her son Kenzo (?). Nick finally moves out of home and Michael grows up. Cousin Abi moves in with the family and falls for dentist Roger, though later leaves to become a nun.
SUMMARY:
Some great acting from the main characters and especially Kris Marshall as Nick. You really cant fail to laugh at this programme. Not overly realistic but thats half the fun! Repeats can be found on UKTV Gold, all series are available on dvd and new series are shown on BBC1. Provided your not looking for some serious tv this is a great show. Totally recommended for light hearted viewing.
Summary: Really fun tv
