Advantages: You will win the jackpot once in every 14 million draws

Disadvantages: You will not win the other 13,999,999 draws

The National Lottery has been around for a long time now and I have never won anything on either the main draw or the Thunderball. Admittedly I don't play the lottery every week, and gave up the chance to win millions, believing the television adverts which told me that I had a better chance with Thunderball.
For those of you who don't know how the Thunderball draw works I will explain. The first machine contains numbers from 1 to about 30 and the Thunderball machine contains the numbers from 1 to 14. You can win anything from £5 by matching 2 balls (either 2 balls from the first or one ball from each) to £250,000 by matching all 5 drawn from machine 1 and the Thunderball. This, I thought, was a certain way to win money. I have won nothing, despite always using the same numbers - absolutely nothing.
I think soon I will just put £1 in a jar every week and save it up. The odds of winning the lottery are just under 14 million to 1 - is it really worth it?
As well as the low chance of winning any money, we have to put up with a rubbish television show, with a lot of "popular" musicians.
P.S. I lost again tonight - I didn't even get one number!

Very useful opinion, you have better chances of winning in the bookies, especially on-line tax free bookies. The percentage payout is far higher. I agree with the comment below to give the Lottery to Branson.

I rarely buy Lottery tickets as I think they are a rip-off. Give the Lottery to Branson, let him give more profits to charity, and then I might think about buying a ticket!
