Neighbours is a long running Australian soap opera which started broadcasting in 1985. It is based on the lives and associated ups & down of a group of families living in Ramsay Steet in the fictional town of Erinsborough.
In the UK, the show was broadcast on BBC1. However in the last few years it has moved channels & now can be seen on Channel 5 along with fellow aussie soap Home & Away. The show is actually more popular here in the UK than it is in Australia.
I've been watching the show since I was quite young and remember the early years featuring the likes of Scott & Cherlene better know to us these days as Jason Donovan & Kylie Minogue. This in my opinion was Neighbours at its absolute best.
I have had periods where I stopped watching it for a few years but have got back into it over the last four or five years. I love the fact that you get the sunny and bright Australian backdrop and the show in general just seems a bit more litghthearted when compared to your typical british soap opera. Also a wide range of issues are covered by the show.
All this is well but the show nowadays although still very watchable isn't up there with the golden years of the past. I don't know what it is exactly, possibly that the characters just aren't as lovable as they used to be or there are no longer any of the classic characters that existed in the past.
I still love Neighbours but I don't think it'll ever be as good as it was in the 80s and early 90s.
Summary: Still a good watch after all these years
