Advantages: funny

Disadvantages: too full of self-importance

WHAT IS IT ABOUT:
Never Mind the Buzzcocks is a music based game-show where the emphasis is largely on comedy. Now hosted by Simon Anstell, the show has been on TV for thirteen years, and features Phill Jupitus as a regular team captain. The show runs on BBC 2.

IS IT ANY GOOD:
For me, this show is a mixed bag. First off, the good:
1) The music element - it's a real rarity to find a decent quiz show that is based on music, and this is it. Music fans will enjoy the challenge on this show, although it has to be said that much of the questioning revolves around rock music. Nonetheless, you can take part from your seat at home, and see how many questions you can get right.
2) The comedy element - this varies on who the guests are, but there are some very funny episodes of this show. For example, Bill Bailey has been great when he's been on. The host, Anstell, is arguably not as funny as Mark Lamaar who hosted for a long time, but the guests are well chosen so there's always at least one funny person, and there are laugh out loud moments in every show.
3) The rounds - there are rounds where there are general questions about music, but there are innovative and entertaining rounds too; in one round, they have a line up of six or so people, and one of them will be an aging musician, say the drummer from a 70s band. It's then up to the team to work out which one is the celebrity. Then there's the round where you have to mimic a song and your team-mate has to guess what song it is, and again that's a lot of fun.

Now for the bad:
1) Phill Jupitus - this guy just annoys me, and I can tell you right away what does it: his arrogance. You just watch an episode, and you'll see his smug, proud face staring at you. When they do the round where they have to mimic a song, he looks so big headed it drives me mad. I suppose this is just a personal thing, but grrr he annoys me, which leads to number two.
2) The show tends to be full of its own self importance, to a degree I've not seen in comedy. There's a pervading sense of 'we're a cool, street, student comedy show, and we rock', which annoys me a bit too.

IN CONCLUSION:
A fun show, but not as good as it thinks it is.

Summary: it's worth a watch

Forgot to mention in my review what a **** Phil Jupitus is. I concentrated on Lamarr and Amstell instead.

Aside from that trinity, the show is class.
