Advantages: Hilarity at its best

Disadvantages: Language can be a bit much at times!!

Never Mind the Buzzcocks is a music based quiz that first aired in 1996 and has now been going for 22 series with over 199 episodes aired during these series. Series 23 is due to be aired in September 2009.

FORMAT:
The show is at present hosted by the fantastically hilarious Simon Amstell with two teams of three people either side of him competing to win the music based quiz. One team captain is Phill Jupitus and at present there are guest captains on the other team as previous captain Bill Bailey left the show after series 21 to pursue other interests. Each week the captains are joined by two celebs generally involved in the music industry in some way to answer questions from different rounds of music based questions.

The show has a very comical sarcastic edge to it with Simon Amstell sailing very close to the wind at times with his comments so its not for the prude or politically correct of you out there. Language can turn the air blue at times so not really for childrens ears!

Rounds in this programme include an intros round where the captain and one of his guests have to sound out an intro for a song and the other guest has to try and guess what the song is. Theres a comparison round where the teams are given two musicians and asked to find the link between them. Theres a line up round where a member of a group from years ago stands alongside 4 members of the public and the teams have to try and guess who the star is. The final round sees Simon giving the teams a line from the song and they have to shout out the next line from the song in a minute long quiz for each side.

HISTORY:
The first 17 series were hosted by Mark Lamaar with Phill Jupitus and Sean Hughes as captains until Sean left after series 10 and was replaced by Bill Bailey. Simon Amstell took over from Mark Lamaar in series 18 and in my opinion the series has gone from strength to strength since his arrival. Hes not everyones cup of tea but i think hes really witty and totally hilarious.

Its a completely p*** taking show and not for those who like serious tv but for those who like a laugh i recommend this programme completely. The show can be found on BBC2 and repeats can be found weekly on DAVE on sky.

A great show!!

Summary: a great music quiz
