Never mind the Buzzcocks has been going for 13 years now! Thats a long time for a show to be around, and the fact that it is as popular now as it has ever been shows just how good a show it is.
Never mind the Buzzcocks is, if you have never seen it, a pop quiz show. It is usally on BBC2 but you can watch older episodes on channels like Dave. The quiz is not really the best part of the show, its a comedy show really. There are two teams that face questions mainly on music and general knowledge questions. The teams have a team leader who is on the show each week. And then there are two guests on each team, usually from the music world but there are often other celebs on there to.
For the first eleven years Buzzcocks was hosted by Mark Lamarr, he was an excellent host who always made me smile. Then there was a period where they had lots of different hosts until they finally settled on Simon Amstell who has been hosting the show for the past few years.
Simon Amstell is a really good host for the show. I took me a while to be convinced about him but I think he is great for the show now. He is so quick whitted and often comes out with things he probably shouldn't, he says some quite controversial things but they are always very funny.
Some of my favorite team captains have to be Bill Bailey and Phil Jupitus. These two are so funny, Bill with his random comments that are timed to perfection and Phil with his classic comedy one liners. There are plenty of other team captains who come and go and Buzzcocks always make sure they are of the highest quality.
The quiz itself is really secondary to the comedy aspect of the show. Its not generally taken to seriously and the winner in not that big a deal. The best round is for me where they cart in 5 people, one of which is a lesser known musician from a few years back. This round is so funny, and I do sometimes feel sorry for the people who do the line up as they generally get ripped to shreads.
Overall this is a great show. Has been going for a very long time, but in no way is the show dated. They are constantly making sure it keeps up with the times and they always have top guests on who can be very funny. I really like this show and its one of the highlights of my week. And I often find myself wathcing the old repeats to keep myself occupied. A great show!
Summary: A Classic Comedy Quiz Show
