With the general level of television declining with what seems a rapid pace at the moment, every night I cant seem to find anything decent to watch, it comes as some relief that the BBC have put a lot of faith in a show called New Tricks. Okay so it's yet another cop drama from the Beeb, however this one is worth watching as it has a twist that is not only fresh but also quite original in writing terms. We know eventually that the retirement age is going to be increased to around the 70 years of age mark, so having retired officers come out of retirement to solve crimes that were when they served the Force unsolvable. This is the premise to the show; there ...  Read the complete review

Rating:

New Tricks is a detective show with a slight twist, as the majority of the cast are now retired police officers that are working on cold case files. This is the reason that the show has been given the title 'New Trick', as it comes out of the saying that you cannot teach and old brand new tricks. The main cast include Amanda Redman as the head of the unit as Detective Sandra Pullman, who is best described as a career character that is dedicated to the police force, who is initially does things by the books and was a higher flyer and initially did not want to run UCOS (Unsolved Crimes and Open case Squad). James Bolam plays Jack Halford, a character ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review New Tricks - TV Series (215 words)

Rating:

Popular 'who dunnit' tv series starring Amanda Redman, Dennis Waterman (who yet again sings the theme tune!), James Bolam and Alum Armstrong as the lead characters who have joined forces as 'UCOS' which stands for the Unsolved Crime and Open Case Squad. These four characters work for the Met and re-examine old cases (generally murder cases) that were not solved previously and try and solve them. It has a real comedy element to it and the plotlines are actually very convincing and test the brains of those of you who like to guess who the culprit is. Head of the unit is DSI Sandra Pullman (Redman), a high flying career woman with a disasterous love life. Alongside her are ...  Read the complete review
