NewsradioNewest Review: ... (such as The norm show, Wings, Drew Carey, Drop the Dead Donkey etc.) I stumbled on Newsradio purely by mistake. After my head injuries I can't sleep so as I was trawling through the rubbish that is on TV at one in the morning I saw Phil Hartman, who I recognised from that incredibly rubbish film 'Jingle all the Way'. I was about to put on a tape of Friend's because I absolutely hated the character that Hartman played and thought that this would be just as bad. However, I couldn't be bothered to switch the tape and ended up watching this show. To my surprise it was excellent and Phil Hartman is truly a comic genius... more |

Well before you send your answers on a self-addressed envelope the reasons why hardly anyone knows of this great comedy is: 1. The Paramount comedy channel have shoved it in their one in the morning slot. 2. PCC have only got the right to show seasons 1-3 3. No other British channel has picked up the rights or even acknowledged this comedy, which is arguably one of the best American sitcoms. 4. Sadly the show lost one of its main actors (Phil Hartman RIP) before its 5th season. 5. American TV Big Wigs decided to end the show although it had better ratings than some of the other comedies (3rd Rock). If you have any further answers to the ... Read the complete review

From time to time there comes along a comedy that just screams genius. Newsradio, as the title suggests is set in a radio station(WNYX) that is 100% news. The Cast :- Dave Foley as Dave Nelson, the sane and self-assured news director; Stephen Root as Jimmy James, the lovable if sometimes outlandish owner of WNYX; Phil Hartman as Bill McNeal, the egomaniacal on-air talent; Vicki Lewis as Beth, the outspoken and opinionated secretary; Maura Tierney as Lisa Miller, newswriter and love interest of Dave Nelson; Andy Dick as Matthew Brock, the high-strung street reporter; Joe Rogan as Joe Garelli, the resident electrician; Khandi ... Newsradio is an American sitcom set in the studios of WNYX-newsradio.From this seemingly dry backdrop emerges a truly excellent sitcom which ranks in writing and characterisation with such classics as Seinfeld and Fraiser. The focus of the show is Dave Nelson a Wisconsonite who arrives to take over as news editor.Dave is a nice guy and is taken advantage of by station owner Jimmy James and sleazy newsreader Bill Mcneil. He has a secret office romance with Lisa and worries about "spaz" Matthew. On slight premises comedy masterpieces are made on such subjects as office politics, old sandwiches and fighting over the new desk. The show ... Read the complete review

I made a point of watching the first episode of Newsradio when it started back home in the States (I'm an expat American). The reason being that the main actors were a combination of my two faveorite sketch shows - Dave Foley from Kids In The Hall and Phill Hartman from Saturday Night Live. I rememver enjoying the show but then I got an afterschool job ( yes I was young back then) that meant I never got to see the show again. So, when I saw it was going to be shown on the Paramount Channel I decided to give it a go. I am so glad I did. There is so much mindless junk that comes out of the American TV networks that Newradio really is a breath ... Read the complete review

Jimmy James, I love you. NewsRadio is one of the best shows on TV ever. It's got everything: Slapstick humour, great characterisation, and that American attempt at irony (don't get me started). I loved every moment it was on. One of the few programmes that regularly makes me laugh out loud. If you see it listed, watch it. It seems to be one of those fabulous sitcoms that sometimes go unwatched so watch it! Only the Paramount Comedy channel show it but I think it should be everywhere. Every channel 24 hours a day it is that good. Watch it and become a new person. A no, I'm not one of their producers. ... Read the complete review
