Advantages: Brilliant, different and quirky
Disadvantages: Not on at teatime anymore
Firstly let me start by saying how disgusted I am that this amazing and totally different "soap" has been taken off from its tea-time slot, on ITV1, and now is now to be shown only in its omnibus late night slot, usually Thursdays around 11pm. - Rant now over! Why am I so upset?? Its just a TV programme!! People might say, but these would be people that have not been drawn into this brilliant and querky soap. Night and Day is set around the disappearance of school girl Jane Harper and is based in Thornton street, which is where her family live. It has some well known actors in it such as Glynis Barber, Lesley Joseph, Lysette Anthony and Joe McGann. The other actors in it, even though unknowns before this soap started, are really good and very believable. Isn't this just like any other soap?? I hear you ask (and if not why not??) This is definitely not from the same mould as as all the other british soaps around, it is unique. It has flashbacks, weird daydreams and keeps going back and forth through time. Sounds complicated!! I hear you cry. No not really, you just have to realise that this lighthearted soap is not Eastenders or Coronation Street and is not trying to compete with them either, Night and Day is just what it is - a soap with an added kick. So who are the characters? You may ask, well Lesley Joseph plays Rachel Culgrin, a teacher at the local secondary school and aunty to Sam, Lucy and baby Ben Armstrong (their parents died a year or so ago). Sam Armstrong is around 20 and wanted to be a professional footballer at the beginning of the series. Lysette Anthony's character is Roxanne Doyle, a pregnant hairdresser she is mother to Dennis Doyle and Della Wells and twin girls Becky and Laura Wells and her partner is Alex Wells. Alex was seeing Jane Harper, the missing girl, but only the audience knows this except for Josh Alexander, Jane's other boyfriend. Roxannes Dad is remarri
ed and running the local pub. Mike Brake is married to Fiona, played by Glynis Barber and they have a son called Tom. Then there is the Harpers, the family of the missing girl. Natalie, Jane's mother is going slightly crazy, and she is a doctor, her husband, Duncan and son, Ryan, have just left her as well, so life isn't going very well in the Harper household. Maybe that seem a little complicated but I enjoy this programme as it is so different. I will have to record the omnibus editions from now on because its on too late for me, my kids get up at 6am!! If you want to look up more to do with this soap then look at the website at www.Nightanddayonline.co.uk Thanks for reading, Amanda

- 14/06/02 The new time slot does it no justice I agree. However it's ratings don't justify an earlier time slot either- I do agree it is ashame though! |
