This new comedy programme has started its first series on BBC1 on Fridays but I cannot think it will make a second series based on the first showings. The programme has been written by Paul Mayhew-Archer who I can only suggest has got compromising photographs of a television executive to have got this programme made. Pauline Quirke plays the central character Joanne who is the PA to Rod (Robert Daws). It is set in a typical sitcom land office where nothing ever gets done and is populated by two-dimensional stereotypes. Funny - well known actors - couldn't stop laughing I have watched the series so far and i must say i think it's quite good for a british comedy. I don't usually like british TV i am more of an american comedy fan. I think this show is really funny , the main charecter i would say is Jo (pauline quirke - birds of a feather) who is a middle aged single mother of sam (Charlotte Francis - my parents are aliens) working for a toy company . Then there is Rod - who's marriage is on the rocks (robert daws). Jo and Rod keep on being the centre of the "office gossip" about there suposed affair whereas it's just they have been ... If every Brit sit-com that wasn't a runaway success in its first series was immediately killed off after a first run we wouldn't have prolonged the life of Dads Army and Only Foools and Horses. Where as these went on to be classic comedies (ie much loved and much repeated) it seems that Office Gossip is unlikely to limp its way to a second series. The cast is strong in terms of experience with stars from earlier BBC comedies Birds of a Feather, Game On and The Brittas Empire combining in Office Gossip. The comedy is not strong and falls into farce or predictable cliche to often to continue generating laughs. The setting is the office ... Read the complete review
