Advantages: Compelling Viewing for a post-Dawsons Creek audience.

Disadvantages: None

If, like me, you are a fan of all things American, angst filled and with the hottest young acting talent around just now (think of The OC, Dawsons Creek....) then One Tree Hill is for you! Tree Hill is a leafy, suburban small town in America, in the first episode we meet the two central characters of season 1, Lucas Scott (Chad Michael Murray) and Nathan Scott (James Lafferty). These two brothers have been rivals since birth. Lucas' mother was left to raise him alone after the boys father, Dan Scott, left her to be with Nathans mother. Sound complicated? Admittedly, it can be at the start, but as the twists and turns of the story play out it makes for compelling viewing.

As Season 1 progresses, it's clear that the two brothers are destined to become firm friends through their love of basketball and pretty girls, and their hatred of their father, Dan, played by Paul Johannsen whos portrays the villian of the piece the perfection.

Through Seasons 1 to 4 we have seen the trials and tribulations of the two brothers, their close friends and familes. We have had births, deaths, marriages, and all that you would expect from a show in this genre. Season 5 sees a change of pace - bringing the story 4 years into the future. The brothers and friends have been through college and are now all drifting back to Tree Hill. It was a risk for the writers - but a risk which has been pulled off to perfection. Season 6 has recently aired here in the UK and such is the shows popularity that it has been commisioned for a 7th.

Its a grown up Dawsons Creek without too much of the long-winded procrastinaed conversations. Its a less glamourous O.C. But most of all its about love and friendship and the lives of ordinary people. One Tree Hill is uplifting, compelling drama. And those who scoff at these so-called 'teen angst-ridden' shows should hold judgement and may just be plesantly surprised.

Summary: Compelling Viewing for a post-Dawsons Creek audience.
