Advantages: Extremely funny

Disadvantages: They should not have bought it back.

This comedy woud probably make most peoples top five all time comedies and certainly everyones top ten, the only real spoiler for me is that they bought it back one time too many and for me should have left it with the happy ending that everyone wanted after the original final three episodes were aired a couple of years ago.

This comedy which was originally aired on BBC1 ran for over a decade and starred the excellent David Jason and the very funny Nicholas Lyndhurst as the Trotter brothers Del and Rodney. Jason played Del the wheeler dealer flash south London geezer who is just the wrong side of the law selling anything he can get his hands on from out of a suitcase in Peckham market. Lyndhurst takes on the role of his put upon younger brother Rodney.

The comedy is excellent in this show and Del has a nuber of catch phrases that he often repeats. The interaction between the two brothers is very sharp however all the time it is laced with affection and a closeness that is so convincing it is easy to forget that they are just actors.

They are surrounded by equally dodgy characters and it is Dels constant attempts to better himself and become a millionaire that provides the focus for the show. He has a talent for splattering his conversation with French words however often in a totally wrong context and for me he was in his prime when he tried to fully embrace the yuppie culture of the eighties and early nineties.

There are many episodes that stand out for me it is hard to pick a favourite however I did love the one where Rodney starts dating a member of the aristocracy and the triple episode which results in Del achieving his dream is a classic.

This show is often repeated on the BBC channels and also on one of the cable channels so if you have lived in a cave for the past 20 years and not seen it there is still hope for you.

Summary: Top British humour

One of the best TV shows ever. They shouldn't have made the come back episodes though.

It would struggle to get into my Top 100 but it's still a good review of a show I don't much like.
