Advantages: Absolutely brilliant comedy; I dont know anyone who doesnt like it

Disadvantages: None

A classic much loved comedy, Only Fools and Horses has been on our screens for years and repeats can be watched on UK TV Gold.

Starring David Jason as Del and Nicholas Lyndhurst as his brother Rodney, the show centers around a poor family who live in Peckham. Also living with them is their Grandad who sadly passes on both in the show and the actor in real life. He is replaced by the brother's uncle, Albert, who provides laughs when he tells stories of his days in the navy. Uncle albert's stories always begin "during the war...." which elicits a chorus of groans and "shut up"s.

In order to make money the duo form TIT - Trotters Independant Traders- which is the name of their "company". Through TIT they sell, well, tat! Everything from fake ivory cutlery to blow-up dolls, shawoddywoddy LPS to wigs for men! The business makes for very amusing viewing.

The family get into all sorts of scrapes and incidents whilst they aim for their primary goal in life- "this time next year" Del regularly tells Rodney "we'll be millionaires".

The characters are all brilliantly crafted showing progression and growth as the series progress. Del is extremely funny, especially when he tries to speak French but gets it all wrong (saying Bonjour as a goodbye for example). His cockney rhyming slang is synonymous with the show as are "cushtie" and "Rodney you tart!"

As I write this review Im watching the episode titled a Royal Flush, where Rodney meets Victoria, a girl in the market. They get on well and then Rodney discovers that she is the daughter of the Duke of Mailbury. A wonderful match for Rodney; a kind, educated girl with the links that could propel Rodney from poverty- if only his brother didn't interfere! Del crashes Rodney's date to the opera with Vicky, humiliating him when his date throws up during the performance. When Vicky invites Rodney to a weekend at her home who should turn up but Del- with Albert in tow! Everything goes wrong from there...

***My Opinion***
This wonderful comedy has never had a bad episode; even when dealing with gritty storylines, such as miscarriage, the programme is able to stay light, funny and entertaining, whilst dealing with the issues in a sensitive way. If you're looking for a realistic comedy with depth, this is the one for you.

I find Only Fools to be funny, sweet, heart-warming and entertaining every time. This programme is the best fall-back. I must have watched it a million times but when nothing else is on I still enjoy watching these classic episodes.

Look out for the one with the expensive butterfly and the blow up dolls- cushtie!

Summary: Watch it from start to finish- and then watch the repeats!
