Advantages: Doesn't look dated , You never get sick of it
Disadvantages: You must e joking
Only fools and horses is without a shadow of a doubt the greatest sitcom in British history. Some may dispute that and say Fawlty Towers, but the fact is FT kept their excellent standard for 12 episodes while OFAH kept it up for over 60. There is no one reason for its greatness, it is down to so many factors. I will try and outline a few here The Writing, John Sullivan wrote the show on his own and for over 15 years churned out funny scripts with new situations. He never drastically changed any characters and didn't have to resort to any shortcuts like violence and bad language. Most peoples favourite scenes are when some particular incident happens (for instance the chandeliar scene) but my favourites are those which forward the characters developement and are mostly just dialogue. The acting, it seems to me that every actor was playing the part they were born to play. The casting man should get a pat on the back. Most of the scenes involving the main characters (Del, Rodney, Albert or Grandad)are very realistic, you could almost imagine something similar taking place within your own family. The comic timing involved is also top notch. Only fools is very british and most people can relate to the situations taking place, we've all tryed to chat someone up and made a plonker out of ourselves or felt burdened by our families. The British public love Del because he is a loser, nothing ever goes right for him but he will always keep trying with a smile on his face. I would write more but i really could go on all day about this modern day masterpiece.
