Advantages: Timeless, Ever evolving inits plots, Hilarious

Disadvantages: None

From its humble beginnings all those years ago to the phenomonal success of this long running series, the comedy genius that is Only Fools and Horses has remained a brilliant and entertaining comedy. The ups and downs of Trotters' Independant Traders (TiT) have kept the screens alive with humour and mayhem. Through 3 decades and uncountable Christmas specials and hour long episodes the writers have consistantly come up with the goods.

The plot:
---------

Over the tyears there have been many plotlines to the show, from Rodney's marriage, Del Boy's dodgy deals and Grandad and Uncle Albert's silliness there have been a huge ammount of plots here.

But overall the show is all about Del Trotter trying to make it to the heights of richness, the phrase "This time next year, we'll be millionaires" is famous throughout the UK as a sign of constant optimism and is Del's favourite saying.

The Trotters have never had it easy, their Mum died while Rodney was still a young kid, Del had to raise him and (if Del's to be believed) she left him with a great deal of advice on Rodney's updringing. The life on a council estate is tough, living (in the earlier series) with their Grandad - always known as Grandad, never had a 1st name - and their Uncle Albert (later in the series), they have to scripm and eek their way through life. Rodney works for Del in his business as a market trader (not always legitimate) and they have a steady life, down the pub with mates, out on outings, seeing business contacts and occasionally with a member of the opposite sex (more often Del than Rodney). Living in Peckham, South London they have it tough and see a lot of life in their flat in Nelson Mandella House.

Characters:
-----------

Del Boy : The main character in the show, a real South London wheeler dealer. He's got all the patter, could sell ice to the eskimos. He's the dominant
force in the family, even when Grandad or Uncle Albert are around he's the man of the house.

Rodney : Del's younger brother, too young to remember his Mum and never really on the ball. He's got a bit of an education behind him and likes to think of himself as better than their surroundings.

Grandad : Cantankerous old man, always weak and feeble but gets himself about a bit. I've not seen much of him as he was really in the older series of OFAH, gets his way 9 times out of 10 as I remember - correct me if I'm wrong.

Uncle Albert : The old sea-dog returned to dry land, lives with Del and Rodney in later series and has about a million war stories. He was about the worst sailer ever, sunk a LOT of his own ships and very few of the enemy's.

Trigger : Friend of the Trotters, a village idiot type if ever there was one. Believes that Rodney's called Dave - never explained why.....? Road Sweeper by trade.

Boyceie : The well to do one of the show, a friend of the Trotters too he is a used car salesman. Gets a lot of satisfaction from his cash and feels that he's much better than the rest. Married to Marline who's the local slapper, seen it all in her time.

Mike : Pub landlord.

Racquel : Del's live in lover, he met her through a dating agency where they had a great time - both lied to each other and he found out she was not an actress but a stripper. They broke up when she went off to China and Del got arrested. All works out well and they meet up again and move in together.

Cassandra : Rodney's wife, they've had their ups and downs and have managed to survive without killing each other. They got together when they met at an evening class. Rodney went to work for her Dad.

Overall:
--------

Evidently I love this show, it's one of those timeless classics which just gets better and better each time you watch it. The charac
ters get more involved with each other and you get to know so much about them you could know them personally. The show is really well acted and brilliantly written.

I think that shows like this only come around as a rarety, Monty Python, Fawlty Towers and Only Fools And Horses are the best going. Timeless and brilliant as the day they were made.

Great to see some more re-runs on TV lately.

Never be above Monty Python, on a level with maybee but not better than.

I love the show though - can't wait for Christmas specials to come back.

Would rate this series much, much higher than Fawlty Towers and Monty Python personally, but you are right ... it's ALWAYS watchable!
