Without a shadow of a doubt, the V Best comedy on the box, absolutely brilliant. Modern comedy is just cheap slapstick, this, while occasionally using slapstick to fabulous effect (nerver better than when Del falls while trying to impress 'the ladies') but usually through a very cleverly, well-crafted set-piece, is halarious. Who on earth expected THAT shandalier to fall, for example. My favourite scebe is the one where Rodney finds out about The Groovy Gang for the first time. I'm breathles afterwards,....the moment when Del tells him the competition they won was for under 15's, ther moment when Rodney finds out he's suppose to be 14, that fantastic moment when, in an absolutley perfectly voiced 'english kid's club representative voice, in spain' impression, she announces the groovy gang to huddle together, the Groovy slogan....Rodneys face, DEL's FACE!!!Genius, sheer Genius.
Furthermore, where else have you found a better selection of characters. Take Trigger, for example. The 'dumb one' isn't a terribly new concept, but Trig is just unique and class. Unlike characters in, say, Father Ted, the dumb one is both terribly stupid but totally believable and realistic....that's where the comedy lies. I loved it in one of the very last episodes where he did the 'I can make you turn your hands over' trick and then gave Mike a tenner....er, I think this is long enough, thanx for still reading..I'd write more, but not everyone will read this much.
