Advantages: Covers many topics - something for everyone

Disadvantages: Perhaps too much self-awareness for some

The Oprah Winfrey Show is one of my favourite TV programmes of all time and is shown every weekday in the United States. It is also broadcast in the UK on Diva TV. As well as being the highest rated, it is also the longest running daytime talk show in America and is hosted by the programme's namesake.

The show has been running since 1986 and is very popular with female viewers, although Oprah also has a large male following too. The show covers a multitude of topics including celebrity interviews, fashion, self improvement and helping others. Oprah launched a very successful book club on air where people meet to discuss their opinions on selected books. Books that she chooses for her book club usually hit the best seller list, showing the influence she has on her viewers.

She also has regular programmes on health issues called "Ask Dr. Oz" and is joined for these programmes by heart surgeon Dr. Mehemet Oz. No topic is thought too embarrassing to be discussed and viewers often ask questions that you always wanted to know the answer to but never liked to ask! These programmes have been so successful that Dr Oz is being given his own shown next year.

Oprah encourages viewers to make a difference to other people's lives and this led to Oprah's Angel Network being created. This is a public charity with all donations going to non profit organisations. Women's shelters, scholarships, schools and youth centres, are a few of the organisations that have all been helped by the Angel Network.

She has the knack of putting people at ease and uses this to advantage by asking her guests more probing questions than most interviewers dare. More often than not, they usually respond, because it's Oprah! She comes across as a very sincere individual which no doubt endears her to many.

If you want a chat show host who makes you think about how to live the best life you can then this show is for you.
